Photograph of a portrait of Kit Carson, ca.1850. He can be seen from the chest up and is turned slightly to the left. He has a high hairline and a dark moustache. His hair is cut to the bottom of his ears and parted on the left. He is wearing a jacket, vest, white shirt, and bow tie. Photoprint reads: "Nolix Indian Scout".
Kit Carson was a noted Indian scout and guide of the southwest United States. He knew the trails and landmarks from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. He lived at the Indian Pueble of Taos, New Mexico from 1858 and died there in 1868 where his grave is a popular attraction.
