Description	Photograph of an abalone fishermen's village north of Santa Monica, California, ca.1900-1905. The wooden buildings have tin roofs. A tent is adjacent to one. Several men are working near wooden fishing boats. There are several stacks of half barrels in front of the tent. The beach is rocky. A road or path has been cut into the steep rocky embankment behind the village.; The meat of the abalone was considered a great delicacy among the Chinese and the shells were sold to curio dealers and manufacturers of shell jewelry.
