Description	Photographic portrait of James Lancaster of the Los Angeles Bicycle Club posing with a high wheel bicycle, November 1886. He has his right arm rested on the frame at the top of the bicycle at left. His other hand is holding several objects including a towel(?) and is resting on his hip. He is wearing a very tight shirt and spendex-like shorts. He was one of the 30 founders of the Los Angeles Athletic Club. He later became a cement contractor. In 1929, he and Maurice Hellman were the only surviving members of the first club. Lancaster, California is named after him.
