Description	Photograph of a lithograph depicting the city of Sacramento during the flood of 1850. The city blocks of Sacramento are pictured, the streets between them flooded. Small boats are pictured floating through the streets. Text beneath the image identifies the place and event. Picture file card reads: "Sacramento had 4 disastrous floods in its early days, Jan. 1850, March 1852, Jan. 1853 and again in 1862. Following the later flood, levies were raised [and] parts of the business district were filled in so that further encroachment was prevented. Floods on the S. river are now a thing of the past. More than one hundred million dollars spent in levies, bypasses, and other flood control works.".
