Hundreds of people, including men, women, and children, are gathered on a broad dirt street at center, and many are looking at the viewer. In the distance, firemen are aiming two hoses into the sky. The street is lined with wooden buildings, many of which have covered porches and rectangular façades. There are two American flags visible on tall poles above the buildings. A line of hills is faintly visible in the background.; Legible signs include, from left to right: "Carlton Theatre", "B", and "Squaw Springs".
