Description	Photograph of an exterior view of the Banning residence in Wilmington, Los Angeles, ca.1890-1899. The two-story house, built by General Phineas Banning shortly before the Civil War, is mostly obscured by the trees and bushed that line the dirt walkway leading to it. Three windows can be seen on each level. General Banning named the surrounding district after his birthplace, Wilmington, Delaware. Due to his activities and petitioning to the effect, Banning is considered the father of the San Pedro Harbor, which managed to prosper by the time of his death.
