Title	Birdseye view of Central Park, the oldest park in Los Angeles, ca.1880
Description	Photograph of Central Park, the oldest park in Los Angeles, ca.1880. Bordered by Olive Street, 5th Street, 6th Street, and Hill Street, the park is fenced in with a low picket fence and surrounded by short trees. Several larger trees and small bushes are also planted within the park which later became known as Pershing Square after Gen. John J. Pershing. There is a large concrete area in the middle of the park, and several concrete walkways connect the center to the edges. On the blocks adjacent to the park mostly residential-type buildings can be seen, along with a one-story house in the foreground and a handful of larger two-story houses in the background. The words "Pershing Square" appear at top in the transparency, presumably added several years after the picture was taken in about 1880 since the park was not known as Pershing Square until Armistice Day, 1918.
