Photograph of statues of saber-tooth tigers fighting over the carcass of a buffalo at the La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, [s.d.]. A saber-tooth tiger is perched on the buffalo at left, while two more tigers are fighting at right. The buffalo is partially submerged in a small tar pit. There are tall bushes behind the statues, and the area around the pit is covered in grass. This sculptural group was made in 1934; one of the tigers and the carcass of the bison disappeared in the 1950s during re-landscaping, and as of the end of 2012 the museum has no record of their whereabouts.
