Description	Photograph of an exterior view of "La Castle de Crescenta" at Rancho San Rafael, ca.1898. Two men sit on the steps leading to Eugene H. Gould's stone castle at right. The castle's tower stands at center, surrounded by archways to the right and a tall main building to the left. E.H. Gould built himself a castle with crenellated walls, a covered, arched entryway, and round tower out of local stone high in the dry hills above the Crescenta-Canada Valley. The property had been part of Rancho San Rafael. Low stone retaining walls provide terraces for imported shrubbery and trees. It was located on the east side of Pickens Canyon and designed to be similar to a castle that Mrs. Gould had seen in Morocco. It was later demolished in the 1950's. A caption below the image gives the alternate spelling "La Cre Scenta".
