Photograph of an exterior view of the Van Nuys residence at Seventh Street and Spring Street, Los Angeles, [s.d.]. The lavish, two-story Victorian-style house is shown to the left, with a stable farther on the property to the right. A porch and a balcony are pictured at the house's corner. Between the two buildings a courtyard with a circular driveway can be seen, on which a horse-drawn carriages stands parked with its driver. The property is surrounded by a decorative wrought-iron fence. Sidewalk is visible in the foreground. The house was built in 1879 by M.G. Newmark and sold to J.N. Van Nuys in 1880 for $6,500 with a 60-foot lot. The corner lot was bought by Van Nuys a few years later for $475.
