Photograph of a postcard of the State palace, in Algeria, ca.1900-1910. A large light-colored structure with rounded towers and arched outdoor halls stands behind a thick assortment of foliage. Thin chimneys emerge from the rooftops, as well as a tall pole, atop the structure at right, while more trees are visible in the background.; Back of photoprint reads: "Mar. 27. Dear Eloise -- This is the summer palace at Algiers, one of the ports we visited on this trip. I was surprised to find most of it such a modern European city. Of course there is a fairly large Arab quarter which is quite different. We should be in Valencia today, but as a result of high winds and very heavy seas were not able to land -- so are proceeding to our next port of call, which is Malaga. I hope we will be able to land there! In four days we leave the ship at Lisbon, where the car should be waiting for us. Love to you all , Ruth".
