A Locomotive engine can be seen trailing its cars away from the wharf at center, while a tugboat can be seen sitting low in the water to the left. In the bottom left corner "Godfrey Photo. 1870" is pictured in handwriting.; Photoprint reads: "L.A. and San Pedro Railroad built 1870. L.A. County issed $200,000 in bonds to back it. Phineas Barnum, leader in managing RR. Photo taken at Wilmington of the first train of lumber for Los Angeles. In the photo is the first only paddle-wheel towboat used in LA Harbor".
