Photograph of the interior of a Zuni pueblo home showing the use of pottery, ca.1898. The kitchen, sitting room, and the sleeping quarters are all in this room. The woman in the background is at the flour grinding platform where corn is ground into meal for food. The large pottery jars contain the household water supply. More than a dozen containers of varying shape and size sit about the tiled floor. Blankets, clothing, and additional containers are stored hanging from the walls or sitting on a large cross beam supporting the rafters down the center of the room. The room is devoid of furniture except for a single wooden chair. The walls of the room are white, and the exposed rafters of the ceiling are finished, not rough hewn.
