Photograph of the exterior of the theater (built 1903) in Guanajuato, Mexico, faces the main plaza of downtown Guanajuato, el Jardín de la Unión, ca.1903. Twelve tall columns support the decorative portico of the main entrance to the "Teatro Juarez". Visible are nine highly ornate lamp posts which straddle the broad entry stairs. Two statues of lions are on either side of the stairs. Seven statues of muses, gods, or famous persons are on top of the portico. A dozen or so people can be seen in the street and on the sidewalk at the foot of the stairs. At least one horse-drawn carriage is also visible.
