Description	Photograph of River Camp on Bass Trail, Grand Canyon, ca.1900-1930, where Professor George Wharton James, with a beard, sits on a cube-shaped rock as he examines his worn-out shoe, poking three or four fingers of his right hand through a hole in its side. His right leg is propped on his left knee and the sole of his stockinged foot faces the camera. A small pile of camping gear sits on the rocky slope behind him. A tin cup with a lid sits on the rock to his right. The camp is situated on a gently sloping area covered with stones and brush here and there.
