Photograph of a portrait of José Sepulveda of Palos Verdes Ranch painted by Henri Penelon [?], ca.1830-1850. He can be seen from the chest up facing straight ahead with his shoulders slightly turned to the left. He has dark hair parted on his left with long white muttonchop sideburns. He is wearing a three-piece suit with a bow tie. He was Alcalde of Los Angeles 1836-1838. His father, Diego Sepulveda, owned the 3200 acre Palos Verde Rancho and a large parcel in the mountains of San Bernardino. His son, Judge Ygnacio Sepulveda, was a superior court judge for Los Angeles County. The original painting was in the Bower's Museum, Santa Ana.
