Description	Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting the a Southern California Stage Line stage coach en route between Santa Barbara and San Buenaventura, ca.1865-1871. A stage coach is pictured at center, led by a team of six horses, who struggle to pass through the surf in which they are being driven by the two coachmen. The road between the two cities paralleled the ocean, but at high tide it was sometimes necessary to drive into the surf to pass around rocky barriers, which are pictured to the right. The text below the image identifies the stage, its route and the high tide.
