215 Georgina,
Santa Monica, California.
August 30, 1929.
My dear CarrJe:
Your letter came while Mr, Henty Green was here
to see us. He supervised the work at Max our house and we h
have not even seen it, but he and Jack say it looks like new,
I read your request to Mr, Greene and he said boiled linseed
oil reduced with turpentine. Of course you must watch that
none of the oily rags are £s left around for spontaneous combustion. One of Mr. Greenes men, is doing the job and I think
he pays his men $8.oo a day. This man takes care of the house
across the street every year while the family are away.
I think they washed the walls and ceilings,
but do not know what they used for it.We do not have union
men which perhaps accounts for the difference in Price.
We missed seeing the Zepeline when.it was. tx
was over Santa Monica as we did not hear it. Mr, ^rook sleeps
in the garage got up and saw it and both tge maids saw it.
We drove where we could see the top of on Monday, By chance
we tuned in & to KFI and heard the San Francisco broad cast
with some one speaking from the Zepeline and even the Sirens
in the street, and the noise of the ship.Monday night we
tuned in by chance on KNX and heard the speeches from the
Ambasador Hotel.
It is some time since I heard from Edward b
and he said they were siling some time in September, but I
have lost or destroyed the letter and do not remember just
when they were to sail. He admitted that they enjoyed iaj
loafing better than traveling. Judging from News reports, t
the summer has been either hot or cold , floods and winds,
a good deal of the time. I think they are looking forward to.
being at home ajdbi again.
If Hubert finds time to come to Santa Monica
we will be very glad to see him.
Edwardfs last letter dated July 25, says they
xxx&ms are due in Montreal Sept 20, three hours from Maufcx
£LR±±axxwk3SRfii Burlington where their car will meet them.
This is the warmest season v/e have ever had
at fck&x Santa Monica, but is so much cooler than Pasadena or
L,A,that we have nothing to complain of.The radio is going
right behind my back so excuse mistakes. Ed,Rene, Mary, Alice
and Bobbie are coming down for supper with us,
vtfe are about as usual, and Robert joins me
me in love for all.
Yours with much love,
I
