Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking north from foot of 39th Avenue, Los Angeles County. Note narrow beach at low tide. This followed a 6.2 tide on 9 January 1940 accompanied by heavy ground swells and 30 foot breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Newport Beach and Malibu along the route of the proposed "Ocean Front Walk" location of State Route 163 between Santa Monica and Redondo. Also visible are: oil derricks and associated buildings, a jetty, ocean, beach. No legible signs.
