Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking south from point about 1,000 feet south of new breakwater at north end of Redondo Beach Yacht harbor, Los Angeles County. The breakwater caused accretion in beach area immediately south of the structure, but erosion as shown here south of the influence of the breakwater. This was the result of a 6.2 tide on 9 January 1940 accompanied by heavy ground swells and 30 foot breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Newport Beach and Malibu. Also visible are: buildings, pedestrians, walkway, streetlights, signs, ocean. Legible signs include: "Red hot"..., "Coca-Cola"....
