Description	Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking southwest at Hyperion Pier from Vista del Mar, showing part of new beach area of 51 acres made by sluicing sand from city owned property at Hyperion, Los Angeles County. There was no erosion along this new beach. This was the result of a 6.2 tide on 9 January 1940 accompanied by heavy ground swells and 30 foot breakers which did considerable damage to piers and ocean front property between Newport Beach and Malibu. Also visible are: pier (offshore pipeline) in distance, railroad tracks, utility poles and lines, some scrub brush, ocean. No legible signs.
