DiveBom berNamed
For J. B. Powell
J. B. Powell, editor of the China
Weekly Review who lost parts of
both feet as a result of neglect
while a prisoner of the Japanese
in Shanghai, may be getting his
revenge sooner than he anticipated.
A naval plane has been named after him and before long may be
raining down on Tokyo from the
"John B. Powell."
Ensign Manning Gibson this
week called on Powell who is recuperating at the Harkness Pavilion in New York City and informed
him that the navy dive bomber he
flies has been named after the
Shanghai editor.
"I read about what happened to
you," Gibson said, "and I decided
that it deserved some remembrance. I only hope that some day
I'll get a chance to paste those fellows."
"I'm proud to have a fighting
plane named after me," Powell replied. "Ensign Gibson has done me
a great honor. I hope it contributes
to our total victory over a ruthless enemy."
Gibson is a nephew of Mark L.
Moody.
