Important Development In
Local Motoring World
Mark & Moody, Inc. Announce Acquisition Of Huge
Showroom Premises On Avenue Foch; Transaction
* Indicates Optimism Over Shanghai's Future
An indication of genuine optimism
regarding Shanghai's future is
-visibly and volubly expressed by
the firm of Mark L. Moody, Fed.
Inc,, U.S.A., and its President and
General Manager, Mark L,.- Moody,
with the confirmation that the firm
ihas just consummated a deal involving the purchase of the large showroom and service garage which
cover more than three mow at 640
Avenue Foch, and formerly known
as the Harking Motors.
'-We believe in Shanghai and
Shanghai's future,*' stated Mark L.
Moody, when confirming the purchase and explaining his Company's
expansion plan, "We have watched
Shanghai's growth for the last
20 years and know something of
the city's "growing pains." It has
passed through many painful periods
and invariably emerged to enter into- an era of greater development.
Shanghai is again at a- difficult stage
in its life, probably its most diffi-
cuJt stage. I might say that
it might be considered to be
m its adolescent stage and des
tined in the not very distant future
to be recognfeed by the world
powers as no longer a fledgling but
as one of the largest and most important cities of the world and treated as such, as Shanghai is coming
more and more to be considered as
a pivotal point in the Far East as
well as the gateway to several
hundred millions of people and a
vast amount of world commerce.
Confident Of Future
"The world has become quite
'Shanghai-conscious' in the last two
years and the world powers may
be depended upon, I am sure, to
see that Shanghai's future will not
be impaired but instead afforded
added security and impetus as an
outcome of the present "growing
pains.' The trend of the policies of
world powers toward Shanghai is
becoming more evident from day to
day, and we are confident that ultimately Shanghai will enjoy a status
which will ensure her future and
increased prosperity, and justify the
unconquerable spirit which Shanghai has always exhibited in her ad-
vensitiesi and which have proven
her great recuperative powers and
importance as one of the greatest
cities in the world."
Speaking of the physical aspect
of the Moody Company's purchase,
which is one of the larger real estate
transactions of recent weeks, Mr.
Moody said, "The purchase and renovation of the property involves
something over $100,000 and will
result in the Shanghai motoring
public having another first-class automotive organization at its disposal
in the near future. Our expansion
is not altogether in anticipation of
the future. On account of the rapid
and pronounced increase in sales
of Packard and Fiat cars we are
providing a new home for these
popular lines and will operate a
highly specialized service department for them on the same premises as the Packard-Fiat Showroom at 640 Avenue Foch.
Modern Equipment
Our Chrysler and Plymouth lines
will remain at the present Showroom at the corner of Avenue Edward VII and continue to be serviced at the Company's Service Station
on Rue Bourgeat. On account of the
considerable length of time which
must elapse before we can receive
and install the large amount of modern special automotive machinery
which we are ordering, it will probably be early September before we
will be able to open our new service plant on Avenue Foch and invite public inspection. However,
when ready for operation, the plant
will contain both beautiful and efficient equipment to speed up service operations and reduce the cost
of same to the public, which I am
sure will be welcome. It is human
to err. We cannot always be right,
but we can and are going far to
eliminate human error by installing
precision machines for both
'diagnosis' and repair operations."
In conclusion Mr. Moody stated
that a more interesting announcement would be forthcoming in a
month or so.
