Description	Photograph. "First in nation -- Los Angeles County Central Heating and Refrigeration Plant at the Civic Center opened on Thursday, August 21. The first of its kind in the nation, this complex octopus-like system will carry heat and refrigeration to various county buildings. It was engineered and designed by M.A. Nishkian & Company, Consulting Engineers, Long Beach. The $3,500,000 structure was constructed by Haas-Haynie-Frandsen, Inc., General Contractors, Beverly Hills. Mechanical installations were by Scott Company of Southern California." -- typed note attached to verso, dated 14 August 1958.; Streetscape. Horizontal photography.
