RESOLUTION
The Annual Conference of the Korean National Association in America, meeting
December 28, 1946, in the City of Los Angeles, does by resolution, unanimously oppose the establishment of a separate South Korea government, as follows%
Whereas, a certain Korean, recently returned to the United States from Korea,
has endeavored to promote the establishment of such a separate governmentj
And whereas such a policy is a direct contradiction of the express assurances
of the respective State Departments of the United States and the Soviet Union}
And whereas, and above all, such proposed separation contravenes and nullifies
the will and the wish of the overwhelming majority of thirty million Koreans resident
in all jurisdictionj
And whereas, such separate South Korean government would impose the following
dangers and deficiencies upon the Korean people:
1* Both historically and economically the north and south sections of the
coun+ry are interdependent, rendered so by the complementary character
of the natural resources of each area, and by the type and degree of
industrialization.
2. Civil strife, immediate or otherwise, would result from such separation
of Korean areas and population in contravention of their God-given right
to live as one body of people.
3. Regardless of the success or failure of military government procedures
in either north or south Korea, the great majority of Koreans want, and
are entitled to, a single national government established with the joint
aid of the American and Soviet military commands. The Korean population
still retains a measure of confidence that the said two governments possess the same desire and intent.
And whereas the Annual Conference wishes to inform +he world that divided
Korean governments are, and would continue to be, detrimental to the Korean people
and to peace in +.he Far Eastj
therefore, be it resolved, that this association earnestly urges, and confidently expects, a reactivation of the United States and Soviet Union Joint Commission
in Korea that it may renew its efforts to establish a single, united, democratic
government in the immediate future.
