Description	Note: Das sog. Clichébuch, QQ-30.001, wurde fotokopiert, zerschnitten und die Einzelbilder den verschiedenen Regionen zugeteilt (cf. QC-30.001, QD-30.001, QE-30.001, QQ-30.001 bis QQ-30.010) und verfilmt. - Der Zustand der Bilder wurde im einzelnen nicht bewertet, da das Papier zwar brüchig und somit das Album in schlechtem Zustand ist, während die Bilder allgemein gut erhalten sind. Die Fotokopien jedenfalls sind 1998 einwandfrei. - Zur Datierung: 1905 wurde als Enddatum gewählt, da dann das Rasterdruckverfahren definitiv eingeführt gewesen sein sollte (seit 20 Jahren auf dem Markt). Die Clichésammlung weist nur sehr wenige Rasterdrucke auf und besteht vor allem aus älteren Druckverfahren. Muss jedoch im Einzelfall überprüft werden, da viele Bilder sicher viel früher entstanden sind. (MS 06.1998).; Note translation: These are images from the so-called "Clichébuch" QQ-30.001. This is a large format book containing specimen/sample prints largely of wood engravings, and used by the Basel Mission for its publications up to the end of the 19th century. The images in QQ-30.001 were photocopied, cut out and divided into groups defined regionally (QA-30.001, QC-30.001, QD-30.001, QE-30.001, QQ-30.001 to QQ-30.010). - The condition of the pictures was not noted in each individual case, since although the paper in QQ-30.001 is getting brittle, the pictures themselves are well preserved. The standard of the photocopies is excellent. - Dating: we have taken 1905 as the absolute last possible date, since by then half-tone printing of pictures had been on the market for two decades, and in general the Basel Mission moves over to using half-tone pictures in the 1890s. The dating of the individual images has not always been possible, however, and could be of great interest in reflecting holdings of 19th cetnury photographs now lost. NB however the Basel Mission seems to have used early half-tone techniques particularly persistently for Cameroonian images, please see the information on "technique" provided for each individual image (PJ 08.2002, MS 06.1998).
