Description	"Tuvana predigt beim Tauffest in Gonja" ("Tuvana preaching at the baptism in Gonja"). People gathered outside. Tuvana standing in front of the altar. Women sitting on the left side of the altar, boys in the foreground. Two European women next to the boys.; Tuvana was born as Munoa in the Mvango region of South Pare. He was the only son of a sorcerer who encouraged him to attend the mission school in Gonja after the establishment of Gonja mission station in 1904. He became co-worker of an African teacher whom he accompanied to the newly established Wudee mission station in 1909. Following his baptism in 1910, he served as a preacher in the Wudee region and together with his wife formed the nucleus of the Christian congregation in Wudee. In spite of temporary arrest and a ban on preaching, Tuvana took care of the community and continuity of the Wudee congregation during the First World War. -- Wilhelm Guth (1888-1980), from Zeiskam in the Rhineland Palatinate, studied commerce before joining the Leipzig Mission as a pastor. He served in Gonja (southern Pare) from 1913 to 1917 and from 1927 to 1938. He left a large number of photographs, mostly taken by himself but including some by members of his family or fellow missionaries.
