1894, a regiment of Hausa soldiers who were in Abetifi for 3-4 weeks, sent by the Governor to give protection to Nkoranza (8 days' march into the interior) which was under threat by the Ashanti.
Annotation translation: "Colonel Sir Fr Scott, Captain Larymère [not clearly readable], Captain Mitchel. - In the background barrels serving as pontoon bridge to cross the water. Note the folding canoe made out of rubber. - Also in the background the carriers of the tents and wooden planks for the pontoon bridge."; Annotation: "Colonel Sir Fr Scott, Cpt. Larymère [nicht klar leserlich], Cpt. Mitchel. - A l'arriere plan les tonneaux devant servir de pontons pour traverser les cours d'eau. A remarquer le canot pliant, en caoutchouc. - A l'arriere plan les porteurs de tentes et de planches pour pontons."; Identity of photographer questionable.; Note translation: See QD-30.042 0087 for a comment on the dating of this photograph and the possibility that it might have been taken in 1885. 1894 certainly seems a more plausible date than 1885, however (PJ 8/98).
