Note translation: Translation of the caption difficult! The German says "Töchter", lit. "daughters". This term can be used to describe unmarried young women ("Töchter-Anstalt" was at this time the name for a school for older girls in which they were prepared for the female tasks in life), hence "girls" in my translation of the caption. But the idea of quasi-family links is present. And "Sorgenkinder" means people who don't correspond to the parents' idea of how to behave, people who are on the way to being the black sheep of the family. It may be that by calling them "Töchter" the caption is communicating that they were from christian families. (PJ 08.2000).
