Dear Andrew:

We have received your questionnaire indicating that you do not wish to participate
in our research panel at this time. While we will, of course, respect that decision, I
do want to provide you with some additional information that may cause you to
reconsider.
My persistence has to do with the fact that you were specifically identified as a
person whose opinions are very important to us. We will not take a lot of your
time; you need not come to campus or contribute money or lead a volunteer effort.
We will simply ask for your opinion by telephone or short questionnaire no more
than six times between July 1996 and June 1997.
We are seeking a better understanding of how those who are nearest to us perceive
the university on an array of issues. The information we get from you will help us
as we communicate complex issues to a wider audience.
In order to make it easier to respond, I have made arrangements for you to give us
the information we need by telephone. Simply call (213) 740-5371 by May 31 and
theXJniversity Public Relations Office will make surel^Siravery5ur correct address
and phone numberrTfiey will also ask you what university periodicals you receive "
on a regular basis. «*■" ~:==""__Z_
I hope that you will call today and join a small and influential group of opinion
leaders representing a broad spectrum of people who care about USC.
Whether you agree to be pan of the research panel or not, we still consider you a
USC Ambassador. I will write to you from time to time to keep you up to date on
what is going on at USC.
Sincerely,
Steven B. Sample
President
P.S. Please let me hear from you by May 31, 1996.
