The standard, named "Mobile Station-Base Station Compatibility

provides the Common Air Interface specifications for CDMA digital
cellular radio. This 660-page document will be followed by four
additional standards to be produced by our TR-45.5 formulating
committee, as follows:
IS-96 Speech Service Option Estimated 3rd quarter 1993
IS-97 Recommended Minimum Performance
Standards/Mobile station 1Q94
IS-98 Recommended Minimum Performance
Standards/Base Station 1Q94
IS-99 Data Service Option 2Q94
While we have a high degree of confidence in these estimated dates,
they remain only estimates.
IS-95 covers all aspects of the physical layer d*sign of the system
as well as the signaling protocol. IS-97 and IS-98 are a series of
recommendations for manufacturers to consider in optimizing the
performance of their mobile stations and base stations. IS-96 and
IS-99 provide for a wide range of voice and data service options,
since more than one such service can be supported by IS-95.
Sincerely,
Peter H. Bennett
