Dear Erna and Andy,
I have been informed by Professor Tadmor, the Technion President, that the
Senate has approved the exchange of my previous Chair (the Bernard Elkin Chair
in Computer Science) to the Andrew and Erna Finci Viterbi Chair in Information
Systems.
I'm honored and delighted to have been elected to this Chair. Needless to say
that this Chair is so much more meaningful to me from every possible aspect.
And to top it all there is the personal touch: I'm sure there are not too many
chair holders in this world whose chair is named after their personal friends.
As you may have heard from Jacob, I'm on leave from the Technion this year, so
I can devote all my time and energy to the establishment and success of the
newlly formed Hewlett-Packard Israel Science Center. HPISC has it's own
licensed premises on campus, so I'm still close to evrything that's going on
at Technion. Actually, I'm participating (with voting rights) in all the
important meetings of the CS Faculty and Senate.
Last summer Dvora and I became grandparents to Leeron, Mody's daughter, and
Mody got a job with LSI Logic in the Bay Area, which is also very convenient
in view of my frequent trips to Palo Alto.
I trust everything is well at your end.
Best regards,
Avram
