Independent Commission ON THE LOS ANOELES POLICE DEPARTMENT EMBARGOED UNTIL 1 P.M. PPT. July 11, 1991 Los Angeles—The Independent Commission on the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday, as indicated at the background briefing to the press on July 9, the release of transcripts of recorded testimony in executive session before the Commission of top-level Los Angeles police officers. These transcripts, together with the excerpts of Mobile Digital Terminal (MDT) messages between patrol cars made available on July 10, complete the material referred to in the Report to be released by the Commission. Although Commission staff members have attempted to check and correct rough transcripts prepared from the tape-recorded testimony, they have not found it possible to correct the transcripts in all respects. Certain words and phrases were not audible on the tape. Some proper names may be misspelled in the transcripts. The Commission regrets that, because of time and financial limitations, it is only able to provide one copy of the transcripts. (Anyone wishing a copy of the report of the Independent Commission on LAPD use of force, which the Commission released at a press conference on Tuesday, should write the Commission at Suite 1910, 400 South Hope Street, Los Angeles 90071-2899. The Commission regrets that it does not have the staff to answer telephone or personal requests from the public.) 400 South Hope Street, Suite 1910, Los Angeles, California 90071 (213)622-5205 FAX (213)622-7318
