After completing your watch, you leave the station and proceed down Hollywood Boulevard, where you observe the same Captain in his City vehicle talking td a female at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. As you · get closer, you observe that the female is, in fact, a known prostitute has has been arrested numerous times in Hollywood. While stopped at the spotlight at the opposite side of the street, you observe the prostitute get into the Captain's car and the Captain slowly drives away. What would you do? 2. You are a Lieutenant working at 77th Area Division. A morning watch Officer--the best officer on her watch by nearly every supervisor's judgment-comes to you prior to roll call and says, "I took some prescribed medication earlier this_,evening and on the way to work I began to feel 3. . a little dizzy. I didn't realize that it would have this effect on me, but now that I am here, I am not sure I should go into the field tonight." You are aware that this Officer has never missed a single day of work in 12 years and has no complaint history. She is generally considered to be the peer gr·oup leader on the watch. What would you do? As a Police Lieutenant, it will be important for you to have a vision of not only the present, but also of the future. Where do you see in the Los Angeles Police Department in the next five years or so? 4. On a day when your administrative workload is relatively light, you decide to monitor actlyities by going into the field. As you drive _down a major thoroughfare, you see a two-Officer unit which has detained three apparent juvenile suspects who are sitting on the curb. The Police Officer III is issuing a citation while the Probationary Officer watches the juveniles. A Sergeant is also at the scene monitoring the situation. The following day, you review the Sergeant's log, but find no entry relative to the traffic stop. What would you do? PART OF A SERIES: Materials in the series fall into one of several categories related to the Independent Commission's work product: (1) Commission meeting materials, which include meeting agendas, work plans, memoranda, and articles about police misconduct that were circulated and reviewed during the Commission's internal meetings; (2) public correspondence, which includes citizen complaints against the LAPD in the form of written testimony, articles, and an audio cassette tape, as well as letters drafted by citizens in support of the LAPD; (3) summaries of interviews held with LAPD officers regarding Departmental procedures and relations; (4) public meeting materials, which include transcripts, supplementary documents, and witness statements that were reviewed at the Commission's public meetings; (5) press releases related to the formation and work product of the Commission; and (6) miscellaneous materials reviewed by the Commission during its study, including LAPD personnel and training manuals, a memorandum of understanding, and messages from the LAPD's Mobile Digital Terminal (MDT) system. |
