SENT BYiManatt, Phelps, et al ; 5-20-91 :11:34AM 2133124224^ 213 669 6619!# 3 TO: FROM: DATE: MANATT, PHELPS 6 PHILLIPS MEMORANDUM INDEPENDENT COMMISSION WITNESS FILE (cc: Abbey Ullman) HILARy DE WITT May 15, 1991 SUBJECT: TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH ALAIMQ ON MAY 14, 1991 Mr. Alaimo has no specific complaint against any one particular officer? however, he has had many experiences with the LAPD in general when he owned his business at 164 N. La Brea. According to Alaimo, he would complain to policemen on duty about the influx of gangs in the La Brea area and was told by a policeman, "Get lost." Alaimo*s general complaint is he feels that policemen are engaged in "wars against the neighbor" but didn't at any time during our telephone conversation define what he meant by that. Alaimo has spoken with District Attorney Burley Justine and a Mr. White also with the DA's office, about his dealings with the police and that he feels policemen are untrustworthy and if you complain about them you will "get in trouble." Alaimo stated that the police here in the states are just like the "facista" that was once in Italy, Alaimo has a very, very heavy Italian accent and it was extremely difficult to understand him. However, the gist of Alaimo's complaint is that the LAPD are unresponsive and when you complain against the police, you will "get in trouble." Mr. Alaimo is the owner of Roma Fine Custom Upholstery and can be reached at: 403-1/2 South Fairfax Avenue Los Angeles, California 90048 Telephone: (213) 655-4115 ALAIMO
