PERSONNEL COMPLAINT, I.A. No. 86-600 Page 114 Lieutenant Hall said that at no time during January 1989, or at any other time did he hear Tortorici say to Ramirez "Hey greaser, there's only one good thing about the schedule. I don't have any weekends assigned with you. That's good because I don't have to work with you, greaseball." He said he has never referred to Ramirez nor has anyone else in the office referred to him as a "greaser" or "greaseball." He has never heard Pellegrino refer to Hearing Reporter Diethrich as a "dumb Mexican broad." Hall denied ever hearing Pellegrino make the statement "if it was up to me I would fire the bitch" while referring to Diethrich. Hall stated that on or about February 7, 1989, while at the scene of an O.I.S. at 10325 Oso Avenue in Devonshire Area, he recalled seeing a measure meter on the hood of a black and white police vehicle. Ramirez left to go conduct interviews of firefighters who had been at the scene and that a couple of days later Ramirez asked him if he had seen his measure meter. He told Ramirez to check with his partners. Ramirez said he had already checked with his partners and they had said that he (Hall) had the meter. He told Ramirez to phone Devonshire Division to ascertain if any patrol officers may have had the measure meter. After that he heard nothing else regarding the measure meter, and.assumed it had turned up. He was not aware that Ramirez had ordered another one until he read about it in Ramirez' grievance supplemental. On two occasions Ramirez asked to check the trunk of his (Hall) vehicle and in fact did check the trunk. Ramirez also check the trunks of the vehicles that Pellegrino and Greg Hall were driving at the time. He (Hall) recalled that one of the photographs taken by the criminalist showed a measure meter on the hood of a black and white vehicle. Hall stated at no time between February 1987 to February 1989, or at any other time did he ever hear Tortorici say to Ramirez "Hey Mexican, this conversation is for White guys. No one is speaking to you. You speak when you're spoke to Mexican." He never heard Tortorici refer to Ramirez as a "Mexican" or a "greaser" or a "greaseball" when Ramirez had a phone call. He never heard Tortorici say to Ramirez "I don't like you Mexican, I never did and I never will." He was not aware of any problems regarding the working relationship between Ramirez and Tortorici. He (Hall) denied ever hearing Michelena ask Tortorici in March 1989, or at any other time, "Are you going to treat minorities better now that you made Detective III?" He denied that he heard Tortorici respond, "No, you are still a fucking Mexican." He never heard Tortorici refer to any Hispanic personnel in the O.I.S. Office as "fucking Mexicans." Hall stated he recalled attending a Homicide Conference sometime in March 1989. While in the O.I.S. Office there had been some general conversation regarding the conference. He denied that he
