April 1, 1989 CITY OF LOS ANGELES PAR KER CENTER Offi ce of the Police Chi ef Dea r Chief Daryl Gates: I am writing to L. A. P. D. for the fourth time! Twic e to Police Commissioner, and twice directly to you . I went to West Hollywood ' s Sheriffs station. Wrote to local F.B .I. , and als o went to the Santa Monica J ustice Center. All of them said , " See your local police". I took a check that was stolen from me. and cashed to the Dis tri~t Attorney's office , ~ho in turn said take it to th e BuncQ squad at Park er Center and let them handle it. However I was told in that office that since the check had been replaced, I was not a victim. I have lived here for 36 years - and one day I caught my neighbor from acro ss the hall inside my flat. I realized that was why I was missing possesion s . I r epor ted the incedent to the L. A. P. D. and told her that I had. It has been so much worse ever since. She told me I'll sue you if the police come to see me. Now I have vandalism, and thefts almost on a weekly basis. Someone ordered my telephone service disconnected. Not me. I am subject to vandalism frequently! I come home to find the door to my bedroom closed, the gas turned on, the odor was very strong . This was in late May. I I have opened my front door to find feces spread on the floor, also on the stairs (human, not animal). My window sill with the contents of a dirt bag from a vacuum sweeper 1 #(..~(, La st week I forgot to put my hearing aids on, they ~ome stolen. I kept them in a card board box with batteries. Several months ago my two dentures vanished at night. Many months later they were put in the laundry room sink. When I leave to shop I can always count on thefts! My former downstairs neighbors Mrs Sherryl Johnson told me she would see me leave down th~. street, and as soon as I was gone she would hear noices in my flat. I used to think Medeco Locks were burglar proof , so realizing they weren ' t I asked the present owner Mrs. Jacob Alpans if there was . some sort of entrance I didn't know about. Her reply was dont be absurd, so move. I am deeply offended at the lack of the police interest. I am rally afraid of these two people. I have not liste d all of the vandalism that I have been subject too. I . will sen9 a copy of this letter to Senator Cranston Councilman M. Woo President Bush I really am aftaid of these tormenting people. I realize extreme acts done to people by deranged people . have to stop. I no longer want to be a victim. PART OF A SERIES: Materials in the series fall into one of several categories related to the Independent Commission's work product: (1) Commission meeting materials, which include meeting agendas, work plans, memoranda, and articles about police misconduct that were circulated and reviewed during the Commission's internal meetings; (2) public correspondence, which includes citizen complaints against the LAPD in the form of written testimony, articles, and an audio cassette tape, as well as letters drafted by citizens in support of the LAPD; (3) summaries of interviews held with LAPD officers regarding Departmental procedures and relations; (4) public meeting materials, which include transcripts, supplementary documents, and witness statements that were reviewed at the Commission's public meetings; (5) press releases related to the formation and work product of the Commission; and (6) miscellaneous materials reviewed by the Commission during its study, including LAPD personnel and training manuals, a memorandum of understanding, and messages from the LAPD's Mobile Digital Terminal (MDT) system. |
