of compiling it, but has to give . . . feels he has to give the results to Chief Gates before we can have access to them. The reason I asked the question is because it's my feeling that every successful big business -- and the L.A.P.D. is a big business — usually invites input from its employees as to how to better render service to its customers. And they have a suggestion box for it. And since this Rodney King incident was such a slap in in every one of the 8300 people weekends when they home and talking to friends and neighbors, I was wondering if your suggestion box, if there is such a thing, is overflowing. I think your answer is that that's an effort to milk that suggestion box. Exactly. That's exactly what we're doing. As a matter of fact, we also put out a notice that went department wide last week asking anybody who wasn't picked by the computer, and we have several hundred that have volunteered. There's a tremendous sense of anxiety in the organization of people looking for anybody to talk to at this point. That's what I meant to tell you, if there's any good to come out of the Rodney King incident, the organization has really opened up and they want to talk. Would it be possible, do you think, for the commission to have the results of that information before we wind up here at the end of the month. I think so. Like I said, we're working on a pretty antiquated system. We're doing hand tallies of everything. I did offer our help on that but he turned us down. So, you now, I think so, but again, I think obviously the Chief has commissioned me to do this, I'd like him to see it first. But I don't think it's going to be a problem. Commander, I may have missed this . . . early in the morning . . . when we were talking about the FTOs, which I think we all think is 4 5 06/08/91
