Phase II - Field Training with Field Training Officer, basics are practiced 3. Phase III - Probationer is given more discretion to complete more diverse assignments B. Overview of curriculum 1. Description of recruita role in the Academy12 1. Overall Academy philosophy: establish professional patterns of conduct which officers will empower officers to protect and to serve the public a. Combination of paramilitary and collegial atmosphere b. Concrete role models of the instructors are present within Training Division staff D. Recruits relationship with Training Division staff 1. Students 2. Team members "coached" by advisors who are not always academic instructors - provides role models E. Probationary Officers (graduated Recruit office rs ) 1. On probation for 12 additional months under the supervision of a training officer during most of t the period F. Completion of the 12 months probation is designated Police Officer II IV. In-service Training A. Training Coordinators: bureau, Area, division 1. Under the direct comm.and of Comm.and Office r 2. Supported by Organizational Development Section, Training Division a. Quarterly update seminars b. Yearly multiple day meetings including training needs assessment and training in formation c. Ongoing curriculum is provided and training experts are available for Area/division training days B. Roll Call Trainingi3 1. Mandatory training each day with a few exceptions 2 . PART OF A SERIES: Materials in the series fall into one of several categories related to the Independent Commission's work product: (1) Commission meeting materials, which include meeting agendas, work plans, memoranda, and articles about police misconduct that were circulated and reviewed during the Commission's internal meetings; (2) public correspondence, which includes citizen complaints against the LAPD in the form of written testimony, articles, and an audio cassette tape, as well as letters drafted by citizens in support of the LAPD; (3) summaries of interviews held with LAPD officers regarding Departmental procedures and relations; (4) public meeting materials, which include transcripts, supplementary documents, and witness statements that were reviewed at the Commission's public meetings; (5) press releases related to the formation and work product of the Commission; and (6) miscellaneous materials reviewed by the Commission during its study, including LAPD personnel and training manuals, a memorandum of understanding, and messages from the LAPD's Mobile Digital Terminal (MDT) system. |
