15 other suggestions that are made by councilmen and others. Whatever the suggestions are, if they have adaptability and merit, we believe that they should be placed on the ballot this year so that the people can judge how they want the city to be run in the future. Los Angeles Forward was organized in order to attempt to find a consensus of opinion as to what should go on the ballot. I offer the services of Los Angeles Forward in bringing this consensus about and to support the consensus measures placed on the ballot. Comment The League of Women Voters of Los Angeles reported k9 on the total charter proposal. The League stated it supported the new charter because it encompasses so many League positions. Comment On the general subject of charter revision the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce made the following recommend- 5k ations. 1. That the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce support the effort to revise the Los Angeles City Charter, but disagree in part with the draft contained in the report of the Los Angeles City Charter Commission, dated July, 1969, and entitled M The City Government for the Future." 2. That appropriate representatives of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce be authorized and directed to work with city officials and other interested parties toward the end of achieving meaningful amendments to the Los Angeles City Charter which can be placed on the ballot in 1970. In this effort, attempts would be made to work out various details and problems set forth in the "Memorandum on the Report of the City Charter Commission,11 the reports of the CAO, City Attorney and others, and further recommendations would be made to this board as to any policy questions involved. 3. That appropriate amendments to eliminate excess verbiage, without substantive change, be placed on the ballot in 1970. (Presently consumes approximately 30 pages in the City Charter.) 6. That amendments for substantive changes be placed on the ballot in 1970 so that citizens will be able to vote on separate Issues rather than on an entire package - with the amendments designed so that they are interrelated; so that, if all are approved, they will represent a comprehensive Charter revision, but if some are rejected the combination of new and old will still be compatible.
