MOZAMBIQUE AFRICAN NATIONAL UNION (MANU) 5-11-1965 THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF MANU HELD SUCCESSFULLY ' 'iH'l in ■'i 'I »1 ——all » i '■ »» . ' i 11 ■ m ■'»—^——' ■ > «■ . i i hi .i ' i ■■■■ — ■■' » i in ■■<—«^—» The National Congress of £he Mozambique. African National Union (MANU), held on 9th September 1965t has successfully achieved its goals and has now been ratified by all sections of MANU'."in Mozambique, as well as those sections in Kenya^ Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia. The Congress of MANU stated goals of unification of all elements of the. M'ozambiean. People and the intensification of the liberation war in Mozambique. The Congress approved the action of the MANU Central Committee which resulted in the iniciation of the armed struggle on 28th August,1964, with the attack on Nangololo by MANU cadres under the leadership of Lucasi Fernandes Mbunde. The Congress of MANU has directed the Central Committee to take all necessary steps far the intensifiVation of the activities of the MANU guerrillas in the four Northern Districts of Mozambique and to prepare for the'.'eventual extension of the liberation war to the Central and Southern regions^ At the smae time the Central Committee has been directed to intensify its organizational activities among the Mozambican masses in Central and Southern Mozambique and to bring the organizational level of those regions up to that of the North within the shortest possible time. The Congress of MANU has also directed the Central Committee to complete the merger of UNAMI(African National Union for Mozambican Independence) with MANU within the shortest possible time; (2) to do everything possible to find a. reasonable basis for unity of all Mozambican parties and political elements that are prepared to carry on the armed struggle to liberate Mozambique from Portuguese colonial domination and all forms of foreign domination. "'• The Congress reaffirmed the firm belief of MANU in the necessity of unity of the Mozambiqan nationalist movement an'd pointed out the principal perquisites for an effective and lasting unity. These were: a) A meeting of the leaders of the various parties to work out a mutually acceptable basis for unification of these parties. b) Acceptance'by the various parties of the principle of democratic leadership. It is essential that the formation of any united front be immediately followed by a congress of the representatives of all its elements to determine its policies and to elect its leadership. c) Acceptance by the various parties of the principles'of equality and of the representation of all the peoples of Mozambique. It is a fact that certain parties, FJRELIMO being- the worst example, have always tended to discriminate against the people of Northern Mozambique and against Muslim( who form 35% of the Mozambican population) and have'"tended to exclude Northerners and Muslim from positions of leadership. It must be clear that if there is to be unity, such policies cannot be tolerated. It was, after all, principally for these reasons that MANU was forced to withdraw from FRELIMO, after having played the leading role in establishing it. d£ Those leaders in certain of the parties who have made themselves committed to certain imperialist parties- in return for money with which to buy houses in Dar es-Salaam (Tanzania) and to live lavishly at the expense of the national struggle, must end their anti-national #ommit- ments and activities or be removed from their posts. The Congress of MANU soundly condemned the intrigues og the American, British and Israeli Imperialists in Mozambique and their role in giving material aid, both financial and military aid to the Portuguese colonialists t'o use in their colonial war and genocide campaigns against the Mozambican People. The Congress especially condemned the action of FRELIMO of sending a number of Mozambicans for training with the Israeli Army. This action on the part of FRELIMO was condemned and denounced as,;treason to the Mozambican Nation'" and an insult to the Muslim People of Mozambique and to all Mozambican patriots. The Congress of MANU has elected new members to the Central Committee and in some ca'ses changed the posts of old ones in accordance with the needs of the^Revolutions The Central Committee is under the leadership of Bwana Seif Al-Aziz L. Milas, who has been unanimously elected as President. The Congress of MANU also made resolutions; condemning the American aggression in South Viet-Nam and demanding the withdrawal of the Americans from Viet-Nam; Supporting the fraternal People of South Arabia in their struggle against British oppression and colonialism; Condemning British reluctance to carry out Britain's responsibility to the African People of Rhodesia. In support of the just struggle of the Brave Arab People of Palestine. $ •;; :[i * :;• ■;.: i',; ;£ :,; £ :); :]: £ jji
