The liberation struggle involves also the Education of the people; the uncovering of the dark pall which 450 years of Portuguese colonial obscurantism cast over the eyes of our people and giving the opportunity ..tp see .themselves and the world more broadly. In or^^i^to^chi^e :t^iS^^ELIM0|is establishing primary schools in all£! liberated are^s, in those frer African countries, such as Tanzania, v/hich care enough to give us facilities; secondary, teacher training and nursing programmes, vi/e have sent abroad a large number of 'Students 'for higher studies; in fact many more than the Portuguese colorifalists have ever educated at the University level. For our people, the Africa is a Day of Enlightenment. We therefore wish to take- this opportunity to greet our African Brothers who are now-fre# from colonialis*;: to hail them for their successes in the £bTitical, economic and social struggles which they have won and are still winning I We wish to greet the people of Tanzania for the dynamic leadership they are showing in the struggle against economic and social exploitation and for the support which they are giving to the liberation struggle in all of Southern Africa; we wish to hail the Organisation of African Unity for^ its untiring efforts on behalf of the liberation of Southern Africa. We hail the peoples of the world who support our struggle because they feel that without our freedom theirs is meaningless. We wish to greet the peoples of Guinea(Bissau), Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe , Comoros Isles, who are now fighting side by side with us to free Africa from European oppression and slavery. We believe that as we strive to free ourselves together we contribute towards African Unity. For The Central Committee of FRELIMO Eduardo C* Mondlane* 2 5 May 1968* FRELIMO EDUCATES ME... (from pag. 4) Our party educates us; not just teaching us about unity but about many other things. Before, I couldn't study because my parents had no money. Now in my detachment I am learning and I go to school. Since I joined FRELIMO, gRELIMO has been educating me, teaching me. FRELIMO does that to raise our level of political consciousness. Our people have suffered a areat deal, my parents, I myself, have been exploited, my uncle was murdered, but thanks to the party I understand now. I do not hate the Portuguese people; we are fighting colonialism; our enemies are the army, the police, PIDE, capitalism, imperialism, feudalism. I want to say again tiiat my greatest wish is to see Mozambique independent: I will fight for that. -11-
