COMITE REVOLUCIONARIO PS MOCAMBIQUE REVOLUTK (COREMO) MOZAMBIQUE REVOLUTIONARY COMMITTEE REF: 5/CC/4/66: DEPARTAMENT OE INFORMATION. TELEGRAMS: PATRIA-LUSAKA P.O.BOX 1493 LUSAKA-ZAMBIA, PRESS COMUNIQUE " GAerrilla fighters under the directives of the Commanding Headquarters of the Mozambique Revolutionary Committee (COREMO) have"encountered heavy' casualties on the Portuguese fascist troops * Our heroic fighters'concious of the/nisloric task facing our people and Nation have used byth primitive'and modern weapons in more than 178 engagements with the enemy forces from May the 2nd to August the 3rd 1956. In the Tete District, in the areas of Zumbo, Zumbue and Fingoe, more than 75 Portuguese soldiers have been wiped out and an enemy heliocpter on a recconnai&sance patrol from Tete was shot down on the 21st of June 7 miles from post Mongue,the pilot and other sisz soldiers on board were all killed. After this operation a squard of the Portuguese soldiers on a rescue operation came to this area but immediately our guerrillas*got information they laid ah ambush and three soldiers were killed the other soldiers on the rescue operation'squard escaped oatrying the dead with them. After this operation the Portuguese fascists areested more than 500 people arpund this area,, More than (2) battalion of soldiers have been brought to Tete District*In a new move to try to suppress the activities of our fighters^ this troops have been stationed in many parts of the province and more than 12 camps have been built in the areas of Zumbo, Zumbue and Fingoe, this is more especially in the area of Chiefs; Joao. Nyakalot, Nsendaluzi and in Kasenga area, this is an area covering more than hundred miles (l00)# New r-^ads along the boarder of Zambia have been constructed and the Fingoe Zumbue road~is under active"construction: this is intended to give quick movement of the enemy troops when in patrol,, In Niassa and Quelimane Provinces our fighters continue to score many victories. Our fighters in these areas are daily improving their skill of fighting the agreesive forces of the Salazar fascist regime. And since May many base areas have been established a*d the number cf our trained guerrillas have been increased* In all thsse 178 engagements9 (COREMO) has lost 17 (§.gventeen) of lost 17 isevem Liliat/if*f§e8e3 its galant fighters who havo loet their lives whiiist/f 1 -.reserving their beloved motherland* And more than three hundred men,; ~ women and children have been indiscriminately killed by"the fascist troops, the number of those arrested exceed one )i^{'0^ thousand (lOOO)# PATRIA OU MORTE OUR COUNTRY OR DEATH:
