REPORT 5. 1 September 1965 for such things as the cleaning of the building, the kitchen and dining room, the library, recreation, rules and regulations, stores, etc. Each student is expected to perform his or her quota of chores under the direction of the representatives, and these are rotated on a weekly basis. 11. Library, The Mozambique Institute is justifiably proud of its small but growing library. With the exception of a large consignment of text books in Portuguese which we purchased in Brazil and a few books bought locally, our library is stocked entirely with books and magazines given to us by numerous private donors and by: The British Council - Hill Book Bounty Periodical Presentation Programme United States Information Service The Government of India, Goa Books for Africa Program of the African-American Institute Ranfurly Library Committee, through the East African Literature Bureau, Dar es Salaam Fredrick Ebert Foundation, Federal Republic of Germany Kivukoni College, Dar es Salaam Freedom House Bookshelf Committee, New York City During the June school holiday, the tutoring staff and the Mozambique Institute girls collaborated on a complete reorganisation of the library, which is now fully classified according to the Dewey Decimal System. 12. Other Gifts The Catholic Relief Services has been cooperating most generously in our food programme with donations of bulk quantities of dry milk, cereals and grains. We have received a welcome gift of a tape recorder, microscope, sports equipment and school supplies from the Government of Czechoslavakia. We have been notified that we will soon re-ceive a tape recorder, typewriter, slide projector and other items from the Democratic Republic of Germany. The Tanganyika Christian Refugee Service has given a gift of funds to buy shorts and shirts for some students located outside of Dar es Salaam. 13. Recreation Music, sports and general recreation play an important part in our programmes as a relaxation from the students' concentrated schedule of classes, tutoring and study halls. Some of the Mozambique Institute students are members of the KIEC football team. At the Institute, we have a very enthusiastic group of volley ball teams, which hold intra-institute competitions. We have discovered considerable musical talent among the students, who perform on the guitar, drums and penny-whistle. Each Saturday evening we provide films or other entertainment at the Institute for our own students and for any non-Mozambican students who care to visit us from the KIEC. 14. Holidays The Mozambique Institute plans its holidays according to the schedule of the KIEC, and there are generally two or three periods of two or more weeks when the students are free from their academic programme. During these periods we try to plan activities of a constructive nature. For instance, during the June holiday this
