MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT(PRELIMO). ^° KEW ffEAS MESSAGE, TO THE J^ATOUCAN PEOPLE^ /; : :: •'r MOZAMBICAN PEOPLE, When FRELIMO solemnly proclaimed the beginning of the armed struggle of the Mozambican people against Portuguese colonialism^. on the 25"th September, 1964, FRELIIviO was sure that colonialism would be destroyed,that the fiozanibican people would stay firm, valiant, and be prepared for all sacrifies for the victory of their liberation struggle. This is happening. Our people are . r. carrying out the struggle heroically: already several heroes of the people have sprinkled the soil of their fatherland with their blood, so that Mozambique may become free tomorrow. To all those who at this moment/fight so that our aspirations of freedom, equality and progress may become reality, to them all, I, the president of FRELIMO, in the name of the Central Committee, convey revolutionary greetings and congratulations on your revolutionary behaviour. I pay homage to those who fell in battle. I urge courage to all F3ELIM0 militants: they can be ascertained that final victory is on our side#, that the day of our freedom near'.. In the moments of setbacks, discouragement, hesitation, we must inpire ourselves on our History. Mozambican heroism is rooted in the past, is traditional-When the Portuguese invaded. ... Mozambique to enslave our people and to exploit the wealth of .r;-; our country, the people rose at once in resistance against the xi • invader. It was only due to their better armaments that the;;. ...:•.• Portuguese succeeded in dominating our people. But this domination is temporary. There have been numerous cases of resistance against the invader in the history of Mozambique. Today, this resistance is much stronger than ever: it is organized, it has a good, well-structured direction-PRELIl:0. On the other hand, today, v/e are no longer isolated in the struggle: V/e have the support of other people. World solidarity with our struggle is always mounting: there are friendly and willing countries which help us with arms sqmetimes better than, those possessed by the Portuguese. This, combined v/ith our firm determination to free ourselves, and further, the .justice of our cause and the demoralization of the enemy, and its isolation in the international sphere> are' guarantees of our victory. _ -■■•;. ;i.- The results achieved in 1966 are extremely important: a) V/e annihilated more than 1,500 Portuguese soldiers; we downed 6 airplanes^ we destroyed more than 100 military vehicles/ railway lines, bridges and roads5 we captured and freed several Portuguese soldiers.
