Afana Osende, representative of the Union of the People of the Cameroons in Conakry, said: "Premier Chou En-laiTs visit to Africa is an event of great importance and will strengthen the bonds of friendship which binds the Chinese and African peoples together in the common struggle against imperialism, U.S. imperialism in particular, old and neocolonialism, and for freedom, progress, and peace." He told NCNA that this is the first time in history that the African people have received a friendly visit from the head of government of a socialist- country and leaders of the Chinese people. The visit once again shows the great interest which the Chinese people and their leaders attach to the liberation struggle cf the African peoples, he added. \ NATIONALISTS BACK MAO MESSAGE ON PANAMA Representatives in Cairo Peking NCNA International Service in English 1523 GMT 15 January 1964--W (Excerpts) Cairo, 1^ January—Cairo representatives of a number of African nationalists parties in their interviews with NONA here today warmly welcomed Chairman Mao Tse-tungfs statement supporting the patriotic struggle of the Panamanian people against U.S. imperialism. They also gave their full support to the Panamaian people1 s struggle for the recovery of the Panama Canal from U.S. occupation. Paulo Jose Gumare, president of the Mozambique National Democratic Union, declared: "I strongly back Chairman Mao*s statement in support of the Panamanian people!s struggle against U.S. imperialism .... U^S. imperialism commits aggression everywhere. It commits aggression against Cuba; it supplies arms to the Portuguese colonialists to kill our people; and now it is suppressing the Panamanian people. . . .
