I 27 AFRICA 22 August 1963 "While trying hard to replace the Portuguese colonialists in my country, the U.S. neocolonialists are closely colluding with them in suppressing the Mozambique people's struggle for independence. The some is the case in other parts of Africa. So the American Negroes1 struggle is closely linked with the liberation movement in Africa, and our enemy is the same, U.S. imperialism." Mahlayeye said: "We people of Mozambique have suffered a great deal from apartheid and all sorts of suppression by Salazar and his supporters. We deeply sympathize with our American Negro "brothers in their struggle. We shall intensify our struggle in overthrowing the Salazar colonialist regLme, thus dealing a telling blow to its backer, U.S. imperialism. We think this is the best support for our Negro brothers." David Mabunda, vice president of the Mozambique National Democratic Union, strongly condemned the racial discrimination practiced "in the United States, which claims to be a democratic and civilized country." Mabunda said: "Despite the false promises by the Kennedy adminstration, hundred of Negroes still go to prison because of their just demand. To our Negro brothers in the United States, we say your struggle is just and we are with you. So carry on until victory is achieved. Your victory will yet be another blow against imperialism." Peter Molotsi, representative of the Pan-Africanist Congress of South Africa, said: "The people of South Africa completely and totally support Chairman Mao's statement supporting the American Negroes' struggle. The American white racists use Negroes as slave labor to guarantee their hugh profits. Behind racial discrimination are the big monopolists which are financing the Kennedy adminstration." Molotsi said that if Kennedy were really against racial discrimination, as he claims, then the big monopolists would get rid of him. Molotsi said: "The victories achieve by the African liberation movements have inspired the American Negroes in their struggle for freedom. In turn, the development of the American Negroes' struggle has encouraged the African people. Our sturggles are closely linked with each other. Whatever obstacles there may be in the way ahead, final victory will belong to the struggling peoples. History is on our side." Phiri, secretary of the Northern Rhodesian United National Independence Party (UNIP) Cairo office, said Chairman Mao Tse-tungTs views in support of the Negroes' struggle for justice in the tfeited StatrAS x-epresent the views held by all peace-loving people of the world.
