3. PORTUGUESE ATROCITIES AND INJUSTICES In the previous sessions of this special Committee on decolonisation which took place in 1965 and 1966 in this city of Dar es Salaam, we submitted.petitions outlining the general situation v/hich prevails in Mozambique. In those sessions v/e described the monstrous methods of repression used by the Portuguese colonialists to frustrate the struggle for national liberation which our people are heroically carrying out. Once again we insist on denouncing the Portuguese Government for its policy of repression, vbedause "this horrendous repression is costing thousands of lives of innocent and peaceful people, whose only crime is having aspired to a happy life, peace and freedom. We insist in denouncing the Portuguese Government, thus calling the attention of world public opinion to the Portuguese colonial problem so that it may exert an active pressure on Portugal and force her to renounce her inhuman colonialist actions and her criminal v/ar of systematic genocide. The atrocities of the Portuguese colonialists perpetrated against the people of Mozambique do not constitute.a new element in the history of Portuguese repression of our people. With their first arrival on the Mozambican soil, a new chapter of suffering started in the history of the people of Mozambique. Nov/ that the present situation is that of armed struggle, the savage actions of the Portuguese against our people could not be worse, and the brutal manner in which these terrorist activities are carried out goes beyond any limits of human decency. Very often when the Portuguese hordes suffer heavy and humiliating losses due to our guerilla activities and are unable to retaliate against our armed forces, they turn their venom against defenceless and innocent peoples and torture to death indiscriminatingly pregnant v/omen, children and the aged. All these criminal acts are carried, out with the intention of annihilating the movement for national liberation, but in vain. We note that Portugal, a member of UNO, continues insolently to disregard the resolutions of this organisation on her colonial policy and she does this v/ith the connivance of countries, also members of UNO, which claim to be staunch defenders of peace and liberty.
