- 4 - The exploitation of petroleum in Angola is in the hands of a Belgium company, Petrofina, and a United States bank, the Chase National Bank, while Companbia Angolana is controlled by the Belgian bank, Rallfi. The railroad in Angola is controlled by a British company, Tanganyika Concessions. West Germany had an agreement with Portugal to exploit iron in south Angola. An American company, Gulf Oil Corporation, has a concession to explore petroleum deposits in Mozambique and to build roads and airports. Another American company is tha Mozambique Pan-American International Oil Company. The Belgium company, Companie Miniere Geologique handles the iron ore industry of Mozambique. 4/ Our human rights "ie forgotten or ignored because of the economic interests of the great powers. To them ohly the white man has rights in our countries while we blacks are looked down on, exploited, oppressed and killed. No one of them will effectively take a decisive position to condemn the behavior of the rppressor. When the rights of whites seem to be undermined, they are quick to intervene and defend them but we are not considered as human being deserving of the same human rights. Today we are fighting for our independence against the will of the Portuguese who would like to continue forever to be our bosses and leaders. The big powers feel their investments not sure and in order to protect their interests, they aid Portugal under the pretext of preventing communism in Africa. This argument is used to acquire more world support and to justify their behavior. But who told them communism would come through Mozambique or Angola? What about the whole of Africa which is independent and is being led by Africans like those of Mozambique and Angola? Mr. Reis Ventura does not hesitate in pointing out the interests of Europeans in Africa in Chapter 5 of "Africa - Economic Complement of Europe"; "...it is known that only Belgium Congo detains 50% of world-wide reserves of radio and 5% of the uranium deposits in the western world. Angola also gives good perspectives in the picture frame of the potentialities of strategical ore and fuels. And its production of iron, now begun under the best auspices, constitutes new supplies of European industry of steel." 5/ And in chapter 7, "Africa and the Western Defense", he says: "It adds that it is in Africa where in nowadays are situated the biggest reserves of ore used in the fabrication of the decisive arms. Suffice it to mention the Belgium Congo uranium and that of the Union of South Africa to attract the greedy eyes of those who aim at the dominion of the world." 6/ 5. A Nova Angola, Reis Ventura 6. Ibid.
