The Portuguese read this Christian doctrine but do not understand
it, or pretend not to understand it.  They want to do more than the Pope,
they consider themselves more Catholic than the Pope.  Their interpretations
differ greatly from that of all other peoples1.
The whole world presses them to give self-determination to the
peoples they control but they say that the colonies are not colonies but
overseas provinces and that their inhabitants already have self-determination. This means they talk of another self-determination about which we
do not know3 The Christianity they are defending is obviously different
from the Christianity of the Pope and of everybody in the world.
The freedom fighters are inflicting heavy losses on the Portuguese
and the Portuguese are now realizing that they are not strong enough against
our soldiers.  They have begun to ask for South African planes and soldiers.
They no longer allow the Portuguese papers to print anything about the
struggle in Mozambique, and as well their allies no longer publish news of
the struggle.
The Portuguese defend their coarse interests in the name of God.
This is nothing less than a profanity of Gad's name and his religion.
Jesus did not allow St. Peter to cut the ear of Malcluis for his own defense and hold him to put the sward in its own place. 5/ But the Portuguese
in the name of the same Christ not only use swords but also machine guns
and bombs to eliminate our villages.  Whom do they defend now? For whose
rights do they fight if they are in a foreign country killing the people of
that country?
They tell the Americans that Frelimo is under the orientation of
the communist block and tell the communists that Frelimo is being led by
the American imperialists through the American Committee on Africa.  They
use all these lies to prevent bath sides from giving Frelimo help.
